Thanks to the support of our corporate member, Spuerkeess, we successfully hosted a conference focusing on the  greenwashing equation.  Esteemed speakers including Prof. Andreas Hoepner, Dora Blanchet from ESMA, and Kim Schumacher provided valuable insights into the multifaceted dimensions of greenwashing.

Dr Thorsten Polleit, Chief Economist of Degussa and Honorary Professor at the University of Bayreuth, explained the power of capital as a political tool, and how our society stands at the crossroads of free or manipulated markets.  The controversial talk attracted a great deal of interest and generated some interesting discussions.

Andrew McDowell, Partner, Strategy& at PwC Luxembourg, talked about the EU action Plan on sustainable finance and the progress to date as well as the challenges and opportunities for Luxembourg.

Pentti Hakkarainen, Member of the ECB Supervisory Board of the Single Supervisory Mechanism, addressed the audience with his talk on Digital Transformation and European Monetary Policy -  Facing the challenges of maintaining financial stability and banking integrity in a digital world.

Charlotte Gardes, Deputy Head of Unit in the Economic Financing Department of the French Treasury, joined IFIS online to talk about "The European way of “greening” the financial system: EU sustainable finance regulatory policy".

Pierre Gramegna, Minister of Finance, talked about the financial sector’s role in addressing the global challenge and provided an overview of what Luxembourg, as a leading financial centre, is and will be doing in the international fight against climate change.

For its very first lunch, IFIS was honored to welcome the CSSF General Director Claude Marx who shared his thoughts on financial integrity and sustainability

Keynote speaker Nadia Humphreys from Bloomberg captivated the audience with her insightful keynote address that delved into the pressing global issues of climate change and the critical role of biodiversity. Panelists Rodolphe Belli

and Eila Kreivi engaged in a thought-provoking dialogue, exploring the symbiotic relationship between financial stability and ecological conservation.

Katharina Bryan,  expert on EU institutions, policy and audit, provided her insight on Sustainability reporting: trust, transparency and the role of auditors and why auditing can add to sustainability reporting

Béatrice Belorgey, Chair of the Executive Committee of BGL BNP Paribas and Country Head of the BNP Paribas Group in Luxembourg tackled together with Etienne Reuter, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BGL BNP Paribas, the question on how the Bank and its clients transit to a more sustainable economy.

Eila Kreivi, Director and Head of the Capital Markets Department of the
European Investment Bank, gave a talk around the question "Sustainability and capital markets -
friends or foes ? From the first green bond ever to sustainability in capital markets - what's next ?"

Valérie Arnold, Partner at PwC Luxembourg, debated online over the topic "From shareholder capitalism to stakeholder capitalism: the path to building business resilience". She addressed the urgency for corporate to transform and how they can succeed to align strategy, transformation, and reporting to their stakeholders.

In line with IFIS' Strategy to foster discussion on Sustainable Finance, and following key speeches from the CSSF and the French regulator, IFIS was proud to receive Mr Robert Scharfe, CEO of the Luxembourg Stock Exchange

We delved into the topic "A Gender Lens on Generational Wealth Transfer and Financial Literacy: Diversity, Literacy, and the Financial Sector" with our keynote speaker Mara C. Harvey and out panelists Prof. Skerdi Zanaj and Dr Tahereh Pazouki.

Dilyara Salakhova, Senior Financial Stability Expert at European Central Bank, explained the role of the financial sector in financing the transition to a low-carbon economy and stressed the risks and opportunities in climate change.

Nadia Manzari, Attorney and Partner at Schiltz & Schiltz, addressed during her session the Wirecard case and the question whether technology is really the bad guy.  The lively exchange  around technological risk and human behaviour fascinated the audience

Michel Rauchs, Digital Assets Lead at the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance, responded to the question if BITCOIN & Co are Climate Killers or Savers and Why assessing the environmental footprint of digital assets is more complex and ambiguous than the public debate might suggest.

Valérie Arnold, Partner at PwC Luxembourg, addressed the question of "Climate change: a planet or a business imperative?"  The way we consume and produce has reached planet boundaries. Delivering growth while transitioning to a low carbon economy is a challenge.
